Since the publication of the last Mayfair Mirror, we were notified by the IRS that our application for 501(c)(3) status had bee approved. We undertook this effort because we viewed our role as a charitable organization dedicated to the improvement of the Mayfair neighborhood. We organize community activities such as the Egg Hunt and Concert in the Park and plan to add more neighborhood events as time goes by. We are also dedicated to assisting our neighborhood school, Palmer Elementary.
What does this mean to you as a Mayfair resident? The best news is that your membership dues, gifts, and donations to Mayfair Neighbors, Inc are now tax deductible. Also, the board anticipates that this status will open more doors for donations and gifts that will lower our costs associated with our community activities and help stretch your membership dollars as we continue to enhance our activities in the neighborhood.
The Mayfair Mirror and our website, www.mayfairdenver.org, are our primary communication avenues to our neighbors. The 501(c)(3) status will help lower our postage costs, and save on sales tax dollars for printing and other items purchased.
What does this mean to us as an organization? We cannot endorse candidates or ballot issues or contribute to these campaigns however, we are not barred from facilitating political discussion, hosting candidate forums, or engaging our elected officials on issues affecting the Mayfair neighborhood.
This should be an enhancement for the neighborhood as a whole as we work to build the quality of our great neighborhood. Your response to our call for more membership has been outstanding. The Mayfair Neigbors Board is pleased to welcome our newest board member, Bethany Mulhall who joined MNI in July. Bethany works in the financial services industry, and lives on the 1300 block of Fairfax. We look forward to her energy and expertise in serving our neighborhood.
