Palmer Welcomes New Teacher for Program

By Principal Elizabeth Trujillo and Robbi Makely

As principal of Palmer Elementary School, I am very excited and fortunate to have Robbi J. Makely join our Gifted and Talented program this school year. Palmer will be sharing Robbi with the district Gifted/Talented office which is an extra bonus for Palmer since we will be in the loop for all requirements and changes for students. Robbi has a lot of experience as a teacher and consultant for gifted and talented students and is excited about bringing new programs to Palmer students. She also will be able to provide special staff development for staff. Welcome, Robbi!

The Makely Family

The Makely Family.

My name is Roberta (Robbi) Makely, and I am Palmer Elementary School’s new teacher for the Gifted and Talented program.

My background in education has spanned 17 years, and includes teaching all grade levels from early education to the post-secondary level. My passion is working with the young, gifted learner. For the past twelve years, I have worked in the field of gifted education for Denver Public Schools in many capacities.

Once school begins, my first objective will be to research and develop an Advanced Learning Plan (ALP) for every identified gifted student. This will require input from teachers and families. I anticipate having the ALP completed in time for parent/teacher conferences in October. Throughout the year, I will be working closely with the classroom teachers to extend and enrich the curriculum using Web 2.0 technology.

On a personal note, my husband and I have been married for twelve years and have two children: a seven-year-old daughter and a three-year-old son. As a family, we enjoy typical activities of other families with young children. We are members of the Denver Zoo and the WOW Children’s Museum. We can be found playing at local parks and digging for good books at the library.

I look forward to becoming an integral member of Palmer Elementary by working with teachers, parents, and the building administration to meet the varied needs of our high ability learners.
