Mayfair Neighbors, Inc. is off to a great start for 2010. Your responses to our requests for membership have been encouraging and appreciated. We had another successful egg hunt including a visit from the Easter Bunny himself. We also had our first annual shredding event where membership had its privileges. This service was offered free of charge to those who were currently paid on membership, otherwise membership was sold as the price for this service. We signed up over twenty new members that morning!
Where Your Membership Dollars Go
As for the nuts and bolts of the treasury, so far this year we have $6,645 in income that includes $1,695 in your membership dollars, and $5,370 in expenses. The bulk of the expenses are for printing and distribution of the Mayfair Mirror, $620 spent on expenses for the egg hunt and shredding events, and our annual $300 donation to the Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation’s Dollar Dictionary Drive. MNI was pleased to include the donation of an MNI member who generously sent an additional $25 with their membership, earmarking that money for the Dollar Dictionary Drive.
How You Can Help
With more than seven months left in the year, we have some additional upcoming annual expenses. We need to renew our insurance policy and will have our annual gift to the Denver Municipal Band and other entertainment expenses for our annual concert in the park in August. If you have not already mailed in your membership, clip the enrollment coupon or credit card payment form (available on our Membership page) and mail your membership to Mayfair Neighbors, Inc., PO Box 200306, Denver, CO 80220.
Thank you for your support!
What’s the next best thing to having your taxes finished for the year? The soon-to-be annual Mayfair Neighbors, Inc. Shred-a-Thon, of course! On Saturday, April 17, MNI board members and volunteers gathered at the South Towers on 8th and Ivanhoe to welcome neighbors and help them get rid of bank statements, credit card offers, cancelled checks, medical records, pay check stubs — anything with their personal information on it — safely and securely. Shredding was free with a paid 2010 Mayfair Neighbors membership.
The Board wishes to thank Mark Cytrynbaum with South Towers, Shred-It, and the residents and volunteers who made this first event a great success. Thanks to everyone for your hard work and willingness to make Mayfair a better place. We look forward to seeing you again next year!

This season’s abundant April showers have already ushered in the beautiful harbingers of spring: daffodils, hyacinths, tulips and higher up in our yards, the brilliant blooms of the crab apple, forsythia, Eastern redbud, magnolia, and hawthorn. With May, summer’s blooms prepare for a later show, and we have picked some wonderful, unique gardens for this year’s much beloved Mayfair Cottage Garden Tour.
This year’s tour will be held on Saturday June 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and will feature some gorgeous gardens including one situated in the yard of a beautiful pop top of a classic Mayfair cottage. Another garden has been lovingly cultivated at a classic Mayfair Tudor that has totally changed its look by the addition of a beautiful low-maintenance entry garden. Four more beautiful cottage gardens will be featured, as well.
New This Year
This year’s tour will also feature for the first time, three charming courtyard gardens located in the Camberly townhomes at Ivanhoe and 9th. These small space gardens are amazing examples of how to greatly enhance indoor living space with the addition of an outdoor garden room.
We’re also excited to introduce visitors to the new ‘learning landscape’ garden at Palmer Elementary. The Palmer project is a great interactive growing space and a point of pride for our local school and neighborhood. The kids are enthralled with this new landscape and we know that adults will enjoy all this space has to offer during the garden tour, as well.
Enjoy, Volunteer and Win!
This year’s tour will begin at 9th and Holly where you can purchase tickets for only $10 on the day of the tour, as well as at the other garden tour sites. As always, great door prizes will be given away to those who register.
We also could still use some volunteers to work three hour shifts, so please contact us if you are available. It’s already a gorgeous spring and we are expecting a beautiful day for our tour this year!
