Mayfair Neighbors Inc

On Saturday, September 15, 2012 it seemed that every house in Mayfair had a big yellow sign declaring "Garage Sale" here. And with more than 100 garage sales across Mayfair, everyone who participated said it was a big success and they are sure next year is going to be bigger and better. However if it is bigger and better, one participate noted,  "We may have to hire a traffic cop".

Mayfair residents held sales at their own homes with common advertising organized and paid for Mayfair Neighbors, Inc. All participants received a yard sign in advance and sale locations were mapped and promoted on Craigslist, Mayfairdenver.org and other online services. Printed maps were available at each sale location. While advertised times were from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., many participants stayed open longer.

On Sunday, September 8, 2012 dozens of Mayfair residents of all ages showed up to help make the jewel of our neighborhood, Mayfair Park, shine a little more brightly.

The group pulled weeds, picked up trash, planted more than 70 perennials, mulched, raked and edged. The hard working group also cleaned up the flag stone seating area on the Smokey Trail.

The Denver Parks and Recreation Department tries it's very best to keep the park looking good but they are faced with many obstacles including budget and staff reductions as well as trying to deal with a very antiquated irrigation system. It's important for everyone who uses the park to remember that this is a valuable asset to our neighborhood, but we can't always rely on the city to keep it up so it's up to us to keep it in shape. That means picking up pet waste, cleaning up after picnics and if you see trash, even if it's not yours, be a great neighbor and pick it up.

In order to provide Denver City Council and Denver Urban Renewal Authority information on how the residents of Mayfair and various neighborhoods feel about the redevelopment plans we have put together a survey to give you an opportunity to express your views. This survey will be given to all the members involved and since the developer is looking for financial help from the City of Denver, it's important to let them know how you feel. On Tuesday, June 26th several hundred neighbors attended the Colorado Boulevard Health Care District meeting to discuss the proposed Walmart. After a short presentation on the history of the site, the developer, Jeff Fuqua, discussed the site and showed renderings of what the development would look like. Fuqua didn’t talk about any new tenants as they are still in discussions, but he did confirm that Walmart was interested in the site.

Fuqua has not closed on the property, and as he does more investigation on the site, he is finding the costs of development is going to be much higher than expected and the only way for deal to work is to have Walmart as an anchor on the site.
