Current Construction Area

Construction is now active along much of the Mayfair corridor between Eudora Street and Holly Street, with work progressing east toward Monaco Parkway, with active sidewalk reconstruction, drainage improvements, utility work, streetscape construction, & traffic shifts progressing eastward through Mayfair.

New Since the Last Update

Forest Street Closure: Beginning August 31, the south side of Forest Street at East Colfax will close for approximately one month as crews continue sidewalk and drainage improvements. The north side of Forest is also expected to close later in September.
Hudson Street: Hudson Street remains closed at East Colfax on the south side through early October while crews complete drainage, curb, and sidewalk work.
Elm Street: Sidewalk reconstruction between Eudora and Elm is nearing completion, with the south side of Elm expected to reopen between September 4–9, weather permitting.
Construction Progress: Soil cell installation continues throughout Mayfair, with active work now occurring between Eudora, Elm, Fairfax, and Glencoe. Additional work is scheduled to continue moving east toward Holly and Krameria over the coming weeks.
Utility Work: Xcel continues relocating overhead utilities underground along East Colfax to support future streetscape and roadway improvements.

What to Expect over the Next Two Weeks

Residents should continue to expect changing traffic patterns, temporary parking restrictions, construction equipment, and periodic sidewalk detours as work progresses east through the Mayfair neighborhood. The temporary closure of Hudson Street at East Colfax joins the ongoing Elm Street closure, while additional sidewalk, drainage, and streetscape work continues between Eudora Street and Forest Street. Access to homes, businesses, and parking areas is expected to remain available, although drivers should allow extra travel time and use alternate routes when possible.

The BRT Project is one of the largest transportation improvements in Denver in decades. Project Overview

The BRT Project extends approximately five miles from downtown Denver to Aurora. Once complete, buses will operate in dedicated center-running lanes, providing faster and more reliable transit service while improving pedestrian safety and accessibility.

Major improvements include:

Construction began in late 2024 and is expected to conclude in 2027. Throughout construction, different portions of Colfax will experience varying levels of traffic impacts depending on the phase of work.

BRT Update: Kearney Intersection Construction Begins in August

Construction continues progressing east through the Mayfair neighborhood, with active work now extending from Eudora Street to Holly Street. Crews are completing drainage improvements, utility relocations, sidewalk reconstruction, soil cell installation, and future streetscape features while preparing additional blocks for construction later this fall. Temporary street closures, pedestrian detours, and changing traffic patterns should be expected as work advances east along East Colfax.

Past Updates (January to August 2026)

During the first half of 2026, construction activity remained primarily west of the Mayfair neighborhood while crews completed utility work, roadway reconstruction, and new BRT stations. Throughout this period, Denver and RTD continued preparing for construction in Mayfair by advancing project planning, operational testing, and future traffic changes.

Notable milestones included:

Late August: Construction expanded farther east through Mayfair as drainage work, sidewalk reconstruction, utility relocations, and soil cell installation progressed between Eudora Street and Holly Street. Temporary closures were implemented at several intersections, including Hudson Street and Forest Street, while completed improvements began reopening in earlier construction areas.
Early AugustConstruction entered Phase 2 between Kearney and Leyden. Crews began soil cell installation and sidewalk improvements in Mayfair, started decorative Mayfair sidewalk stamps, and announced long-term traffic changes at the Kearney intersection. Work officially advanced east from Eudora Street toward Holly Street.
July: Construction officially entered the Mayfair neighborhood, with work beginning between Eudora Street and Holly Street and progressing eastward. Early activities include utility work, median removal, lane shifts, and construction of the future Elm Street BRT Station. Residents can expect temporary traffic changes, periodic intersection closures, and parking impacts, while access to homes, businesses, and sidewalks will generally remain available.
June: The city released additional details about the final roadway configuration and announced construction would soon advance into the Mayfair neighborhood.
May: Construction officially expanded across the full East Colfax BRT corridor.
April: Denver approved additional project management funding to support construction through completion.
March: RTD began operational testing for future BRT service.
January–February: Construction continued west of Colorado Boulevard, with minimal direct impacts to Mayfair residents.
