Major Traffic Shift Coming October 6: Beginning October 6, traffic on East Colfax between Leyden and Roslyn streets will shift into the center lanes while crews begin construction along the north and south sides of the roadway. Residents should expect changing traffic patterns and rotating side-street intersection closures as this next phase of construction progresses.
Side-Street Closures: Construction continues moving east through Mayfair. Ivanhoe Street on the north side of Colfax is closing for approximately four weeks, while Hudson's north side is expected to close after south-side work is completed. Forest Street is expected to reopen within the next two weeks, and Kearney Street's north-side closure is expected to continue for approximately another three to four weeks.
Construction Continues East: Active construction now extends through much of the Mayfair corridor, with crews working between Eudora Street and Glencoe Street while preparing to continue farther east toward Monaco Parkway.
Hudson Street: Hudson Street remains closed at East Colfax while drainage, curb, and sidewalk improvements continue. Once south-side work is complete, construction is expected to shift to the north side.
New Sidewalk Work: Soil cell installation, curb ramps, sidewalk reconstruction, and utility work continue between Elm, Fairfax, Glencoe, and Holly Streets, with additional sidewalk work expected to continue east from Glencoe.
Utility Relocation: Xcel continues underground utility relocation along East Colfax to prepare for future streetscape improvements.

What to Expect over the Next Two Weeks

Residents should expect a significant traffic pattern change beginning October 6, when traffic between Leyden and Roslyn streets shifts into the center lanes and construction moves to the outside lanes. Rotating side-street closures, pedestrian detours, temporary parking restrictions, and construction equipment should continue throughout the active work zone. Access to homes, businesses, and parking areas is expected to remain available whenever possible, although residents should allow additional travel time and watch for changing traffic patterns.

The BRT Project is one of the largest transportation improvements in Denver in decades. Project Overview

The BRT Project extends approximately five miles from downtown Denver to Aurora. Once complete, buses will operate in dedicated center-running lanes, providing faster and more reliable transit service while improving pedestrian safety and accessibility.

Major improvements include:

Dedicated center-running bus lanes
New BRT stations

Construction began in late 2024 and is expected to conclude in 2027. Throughout construction, different portions of Colfax will experience varying levels of traffic impacts depending on the phase of work.

Upcoming Milestones

Construction is expected to continue progressing east toward Monaco Parkway throughout the fall. As work advances, residents will see additional sidewalk reconstruction, utility relocation, tree soil cell installation, drainage improvements, pedestrian lighting, and future BRT station construction. Individual intersections will reopen as completed while new work zones continue opening farther east through the corridor.

BRT Update: Construction enters its next phase in Mayfair

Construction continues progressing east through the Mayfair, with a significant new traffic configuration beginning October 6 between Leyden and Roslyn streets. Traffic will shift into the center lanes while crews work along the north and south sides of East Colfax. Residents should also expect rotating side-street closures as sidewalk, drainage, utility, intersection, and streetscape improvements continue moving east toward Monaco Parkway.
Several earlier work areas are also progressing toward completion, while new intersection work continues opening farther east through the neighborhood.

Past Updates (January to October 2026)

During the first half of 2026, construction activity remained primarily west of the Mayfair neighborhood while crews completed utility work, roadway reconstruction, and new BRT stations. Throughout this period, Denver and RTD continued preparing for construction in Mayfair by advancing project planning, operational testing, and future traffic changes.

Notable milestones included:

Q3 2026 - July through September
Construction officially entered Mayfair and progressed eastward, bringing utility relocation, drainage work, sidewalk reconstruction, soil cells, intersection closures, and construction of the future Elm Street BRT station. By late September, work had expanded across much of Mayfair toward Monaco Parkway. On September 27, Bus-Only Lane Operations began between Broadway and Colorado Boulevard, allowing Routes 15 and 15L to begin using completed center-running lanes and stations west of Mayfair.
Q2 2026 - April through June
The project moved closer to Mayfair as construction expanded across the full East Colfax BRT corridor. Denver approved additional project management funding to support construction through completion and released more details about the future roadway configuration. By June, the City announced that construction would soon advance into the Mayfair neighborhood.
Q1 2026 - January through March
Construction remained primarily west of the Mayfair neighborhood, with minimal direct impacts to Mayfair residents. Crews continued utility and roadway work along the corridor, while RTD began operational testing in preparation for future BRT service.
