What It's Like to Live in Mayfair

Mayfair offers a balance that can be difficult to find in a growing city: a quiet residential neighborhood that still feels connected to the rest of Denver.

Parks are an important part of that character. Mayfair Park serves as a gathering place for families, neighbors and community events, while Lindsley Park is another favorite, particularly for residents on the western side of the neighborhood. Local restaurants, coffee shops and businesses add to the sense that many everyday destinations are part of the community rather than simply places to visit. Mayfair is also centrally located and that combination is a big part of what gives Mayfair its identity.

A Brief History of Mayfair

The land that became Mayfair has a history stretching back long before the neighborhood itself. In mid-1800s, a branch of the historic Smoky Hill Trail crossed through what is now Mayfair Park, carrying gold seekers, settlers, stagecoaches and freight across the Great Plains toward Denver.

Residential development east of Colorado Blvd began as Denver expanded eastward, with East Colfax becoming an increasingly important transportation and commercial corridor. Mayfair as we recognize it today took shape largely during and after World War II, when Denver experienced significant residential growth. The Mayfair Town Center at 14th Ave and Krameria Street followed in the 1950s, becoming an important neighborhood commercial hub alongside Colfax.

One of Mayfair's most important gathering places came decades later. Beginning in 1972, residents spent more than 20 years advocating for a community park on land formerly associated with Spears Chiropractic Hospital. Their efforts ultimately helped create Mayfair Park, which opened in the mid 1990s and remains a gathering place for recreation, neighborhood events and everyday community life.

From a historic overland trail to postwar residential neighborhood, Mayfair's history reflects both Denver's growth and generations of neighbors who helped shape the community.

Crestmoor Park - Extremely large open green spaces, playground, tennis courts and walking paths. While it's outside the our boundaries (south of Mayfair), it is absolutely worth a visit.
City Park - Extremely large open green spaces. The Denver Zoo, Nature and Science Museum, and City Park Golf Course are some of the larger features of this truly massive park.
Kittridge Park - Just east of 8th and Monaco, this small but extremely accessible park offers a open green space and a large playground.
Crescent Park - Located adjacent to the Montclair Rec Center, this park offers a large open green space, shade covered picnic tables, and 2 different age range playgrounds.

Getting Around & What's Nearby

One of Mayfair's greatest advantages is its central location in East Denver. While the neighborhood's residential streets offer a quieter pace, residents are surrounded by established neighborhoods, local businesses, parks, shopping and some of the city's most popular destinations.

Major roads, including East Colfax Ave, 6th Ave Parkway, Colorado Blvd and Monaco Parkway, connect Mayfair to surrounding areas. Public transportation along Colfax also provides an alternative to driving, with the East Colfax Bus Rapid Transit project bringing significant changes to the corridor.
