Mayfair Park Turns 30: Celebrating the Heart of Denver's Mayfair Neighborhood

On August 17, 2026, the Denver City Council officially recognized the 30th anniversary of Mayfair Park, honoring three decades of a space that has become the heart of our neighborhood. The proclamation celebrates not only the park itself, but also the generations of neighbors whose vision, persistence, and community spirit made it possible.

A Park Built by Neighbors
Mayfair Park didn't simply appear overnight.
Beginning in 1972, neighborhood residents spent more than twenty years advocating for a community park. Through changing priorities, funding challenges, and countless meetings, they continued working toward a shared vision: creating a place where neighbors could gather, children could play, and the community could come together.
Their persistence paid off when the City and County of Denver approved funding in 1994, officially naming and opening Mayfair Park in 1995. Today, every picnic, volleyball game, neighborhood walk, and community event is part of that legacy.
A Place Rich in History
Long before it became Mayfair Park, this land played an important role in Denver's history.
The property was once associated with the Spears family and the internationally known Spears Chiropractic Hospital. Even earlier, the historic Smoky Hill Trail crossed this landscape, carrying travelers, settlers, freight wagons, and Indigenous peoples through what would eventually become Denver. A preserved portion of that trail still exists along the northern edge of the park, where interpretive signs help tell the story of those who came before us.
It's a reminder that every generation leaves its mark—and that today's neighbors are helping shape the next chapter of Mayfair's story.
The Heart of the Neighborhood
Over the past 30 years, Mayfair Park has become the neighborhood's living room.
It's where children hunt for Easter eggs each spring, families spread out blankets for summer concerts, and where neighbors practice yoga together on Saturday mornings. Where conversations begin, friendships grow, and new residents become friends.
These traditions don't happen by accident. They happen because neighbors continue investing their time, energy, and support into making Mayfair a welcoming place to live.
Continuing the Tradition
Mayfair Neighbors Inc. exists for the same reason our predecessors fought to create Mayfair Park more than fifty years ago: to strengthen the neighborhood through connection, advocacy, and community.
Whether it's organizing Concert in the Park, coordinating Shred-a-Thons, hosting neighborhood socials, advocating for safer streets, supporting local businesses, or keeping residents informed through our newsletter and website, our mission remains the same—to help neighbors build a stronger community together. Every volunteer, member, sponsor, and attendee plays a role in continuing that work.
